Lyft Commits to Carbon Neutrality

This week's topic touched on the concept of collaborative consumption where consumers get to share their assets and resources and share it with other people who need it instead of buying goods only for their own personal use.

An example of a company that does that is Lyft which is a ride-sharing service who announced that as of last month they are officially a fully carbon-neutral company. Here are some highlights:

  • Lyft has ensured that all rides are carbon neutral and has become one of the top 10 voluntary purchasers of carbon offsets on the planet.
  • They are committing to purchasing enough renewable energy to cover the electric consumption at every Lyft office space
  • They have partnered with public transportation agencies to make traveling easier for consumers and create less of an impact on the environment
  • They have also set a goal of having 50% of their rides be shared to reduce traffic congestion and the amount of cars on the road
  • A bikes and scooter program has also been launched in order to create safer roads for everyone
